Judy Newton RGN

MND National Lead/Consultant Nurse

Judy's role is to lead on the development of a strategic approach to delivering services to people affected by MND in Scotland. She provides the MND Clinical Specialist team with support around clinical leadership, ongoing clinical professional development and training to ensure Scotland has first class evidence based care for people living with MND. Additionally her role is to ensure the very highest standards of clinical care, regardless of postcode and also to take a lead role in patient centered research and clinical trials.

Having trained as a Registered General Nurse in Glasgow in 1988, Judy’s career led straight to that of Neuroscience nursing. Judy’s first MND post was that of MND Clinical Specialist for the South East of Scotland in 1998. Over the years, and incorporating a Master’s Degree in Cognitive Assessment in MND, Judy remained in this post until 2016. Following the announcement to double the number of MND nurses in Scotland, a unique post was developed with innovation and tripartite funding from Scottish Government, MND Scotland and University of Edinburgh. Judy was appointed into this post in April 2016.
